Fourth Grade
RELIGION
The main focus of our text book is the Ten Commandments. Through class discussion, recitation in school, and practice at home, students memorize the commandments and develop an understanding of how they apply to the life of a Fourth Grader.
READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS
Our curriculum consists of a combination of excellent literature, the fine-tuning of basic skills, and the acquisition of new skills, especially in the area of comprehension. Students are assigned three book reports and a research report over the course of the school year. A thorough study of rules of grammar is included in the curriculum. Additionally, spelling lists are assigned weekly.
MATH
Fourth Grade Math deals with a continuation of addition and subtraction, multiplication, division, money, time, graphing, and fractions. A great deal of mental math and logical thinking is also included in our program.
SCIENCE
The Science curriculum is composed of a study of living things, ecosystems, Earth, space, matter and energy, and forces and motion. The Fourth Graders are in the science lab once a week where lots of theories are explored with the help of many parent volunteers.
SOCIAL STUDIES
The primary focus of the Fourth Grade Social Studies curriculum is the study of the geography, history, and government of our state of Michigan. Additionally, a study of map-reading skills is included. Several field trips enrich the Social Studies curriculum. These include a trip to Lansing to visit our state capitol building and the Michigan Historical Center.
