French
The goal of our middle school French program is to help prepare students for our global world, and the future challenges that this world will present. The understanding of a people is learned through the acquisition and understanding of their language, culture, and history. This knowledge of others helps make our students better world citizens.
Grade 7
Our Seventh Graders continue studying vocabulary, sentence structure, and verb conjugation. The students will continue to increase these basics, develop their listening and comprehension skills by using and practicing dialogues in French. Emphasis will be on oral development and an increase in the written structure of the language. A comprehensive history unit on the French in Detroit is presented in the spring, which is followed by a field trip to St. Anne’s Parish and The Detroit Historical Museum.
Grade 8
The Eighth Graders are expected to demonstrate higher levels of language development by using French as the principal language in the classroom on a daily basis. Independent research projects will be assigned on aspects of French culture and language, and presented to the class. The goal of our French curriculum is to help prepare our students to high school at a more advanced level.
