IMG_3231[1].JPGAbby C. competed at the Irish Dance World Championships in Philadelphia and recalled to the finals, ending up in 46th place in the WORLD! She's been Irish Dancing since age 5 (she's 14 now, in 8th grade at OLQM) with the Flanagan-O'Hare School of Irish Dance in Birmingham, MI.  This was her first World Championship competition so to be a finalist was a big deal.  She has competed in Ireland at the All-Ireland Competition (their Nationals) 3 times, the North American Championships 5 times, and the Mid-West Championships 6 times.

CONGRATULATIONS to all of the 6th grades at OLQM that worked so hard to make their charity Garage Sale a HUGE success!!! Thanks to some very hardworking students with big hearts, they were able to raise over $5,000 that they will donate to SPANCO (St. Paul Non-Profit Organization). This money will be used to help support an orphanage in Ghana, Africa for children who have lost their parents to AIDS. The Orphanage was started by a 79 year old woman from Franklin, MI by the name of Gisela Becker. While traveling in Ghana, Gisela met a 14 year boy on a bus that was trying to start an orphanage in a remote village in Ghana. After hearing his story, she was so touched that Gisela stopped everything she was doing and made it her life's mission to help these children. She has since built an elementary school, a hospital for the local village, a water supply, an orphanage and is currently building a high school for her orphans. She claims the "God put her in the right place at the right time, has given her the gift of health and a purpose for waking up every day". She accepts donations of clothing and household goods at her home in Franklin that she personally ships to Ghana. If you are interested in making a donation of money or clothing or just to find out more about SPANCO you may go to her website: www.helpforghana.com

A special thank you to all of the 5th and 8th girls that worked so hard to "beautify" all of the donated Barbie dolls along with Mrs. Bennett for the Garage Sale!
